Individual Therapy Retreat in Northern California | Wildwood Ranch, Garden Valley
A Private Weekend Retreat for Trauma Healing, Emotional Processing, and Lasting Change
You’ve been carrying this for a long time.
Maybe it’s trauma that surfaces when you least expect it. Perhaps it’s a heaviness you can’t quite name but can’t seem to shake. It could be that you are in weekly therapy and making some progress, but something still feels just out of reach, like the real work keeps getting interrupted before it can fully open up.
A private individual therapy retreat at Wildwood Ranch gives you something weekly sessions simply cannot: an entire weekend of uninterrupted, focused therapeutic work in a peaceful natural setting, with a skilled therapist who is fully present with you the entire time.
No 50-minute clock. No picking up where you left off next week. Just you, the work, and the space to finally let it move.
Wildwood Ranch is a private 10-acre property nestled in the Sierra foothills of Northern California, about 2.5 hours from the Bay Area and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Sacramento International Airport. Lodging and home-cooked meals are included so your only focus is healing.

What an Individual Therapy Retreat Can Help You Work Through
This retreat is designed for people who are ready to go deeper than weekly therapy allows. You might be navigating:
- Trauma or PTSD that feels too layered to unpack 50 minutes at a time
- Anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm that keeps resurfacing
- Burnout that has left you feeling disconnected from yourself
- A major life transition or identity shift that needs real time and space
- Relationship patterns that keep repeating no matter how much you understand them
- A sense of being stuck, even when you’re doing everything right
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not broken and you’re not beyond help. You may simply need more time and space than weekly therapy can offer.
Why the Retreat Format Works for Trauma and PTSD
Trauma doesn’t resolve on a schedule. One of the most common frustrations in traditional therapy is reaching the edge of something important and then having to stop because the hour is up. You leave the session activated, unsettled, and carrying what didn’t get to finish processing.
The retreat format changes that entirely.
Over a full weekend, you have the space to move through the work at a pace your nervous system can actually handle. There’s no rushing to wrap up. No emotional gear-shifting to get back to your day. Just sustained, skilled therapeutic support that allows the deeper layers to surface, be processed, and begin to integrate.
For trauma work specifically, this continuity is not just helpful. It’s often what makes the difference between managing symptoms and actually healing.
EMDR and Evidence-Based Therapy at the Retreat
Marty specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), one of the most well-researched and effective therapies available for trauma and PTSD. The retreat format is particularly powerful for EMDR work because extended sessions allow trauma processing to build momentum and move toward completion rather than stopping mid-stream.
Depending on your goals, your retreat may also incorporate:
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
- Emotionally focused work
- Insight-oriented and experiential therapy
Every retreat is tailored entirely to you and what you need most.
A Private, Personalized Experience
Your retreat is designed for you alone. That means:
- No group setting
- No sharing your story with strangers
- No rotating facilitators
- No distractions
Just focused, skilled therapeutic work built entirely around your goals, your history, and what needs attention right now.
What to Expect
Here’s exactly what the process looks like from your first conversation through the weekend and beyond.
Step 1: A Free Consultation Call We’ll start with a brief, no-cost phone call. This is a relaxed conversation, a chance for you to ask questions about the process and for Marty to get a sense of what you’re navigating and whether a retreat is the right fit. There’s no pressure and no commitment required. If it’s not the right match, Marty will tell you honestly.
Step 2: Pre-Retreat Consultation Once you’re ready to move forward, you and Marty will meet for a focused one-hour virtual planning session. You’ll clarify your goals, identify key themes, and map out what the weekend will focus on. By the end of this call, you’ll feel prepared and genuinely clear about what’s ahead.
Step 3: The Weekend Retreat This is where the real work happens. Over Friday evening through Sunday morning, you’ll have 10 hours of focused, in-person therapeutic sessions with Marty at Wildwood Ranch. The schedule is structured but leaves room to follow what comes up. Meals and lodging are included so your only focus is the work itself.
Step 4: Post-Retreat Integration Session About a week after the retreat, you and Marty will meet virtually for a one-hour follow-up session. This is where insight becomes lasting change, a chance to process what shifted, answer questions that have come up, and map out how to carry the work forward into daily life.
Retreat Schedule
Before the Retreat Pre-retreat consultation (virtual, 1 hour): A focused planning session to clarify your goals, identify key themes, and prepare for the weekend ahead.
Friday Evening — Arrival and Beginning the Work
- Arrival and settling in at Wildwood Ranch
- Shared dinner
- 2-hour therapy session to begin identifying core themes and focus areas
Saturday — The Core Intensive Day
- Morning session: 3 hours
- Break and reflection time, nature trails, forest bathing
- Afternoon session: 3 hours
- Evening session: 1 hour
Saturday is the deepest part of the retreat. This is where the most significant emotional processing and trauma work happens, sustained and uninterrupted in a way that weekly therapy simply cannot replicate.
Sunday — Integration and Next Steps
- Morning session: 2 hours
This final session focuses on integration, emotional grounding, clarity, and practical next steps for moving forward with what emerged over the weekend.
After the Retreat Post-retreat integration session (virtual, 1 hour): A follow-up session to support continued progress, answer questions, and help you apply insights to daily life.
The Setting That Makes It Possible
Between sessions, Wildwood Ranch holds you in exactly the way this kind of work requires.
You might find yourself walking the nature trails through the tall pines, breathing in the cool mountain air, letting your nervous system settle after a session that stirred something deep. Or sitting quietly by the hot tub, watching the light shift through the trees, not trying to figure anything out. Just being.
In the evening, the firepit draws you outside where the smell of woodsmoke and the crackle of the fire create the kind of stillness that makes it easy to exhale. This is what it feels like to actually make room for yourself.
By Sunday morning, something will have shifted. You may not be able to name it all yet. But you’ll feel it.

Why an Individual Retreat Is Worth the Investment
The research supports it Extended, focused therapeutic time produces results that weekly sessions often cannot. Research shows that immersive therapeutic formats can achieve the same level of progress as months of weekly therapy, particularly for trauma and PTSD work where continuity and sustained processing time are critical.
The benefits last beyond the weekend You won’t just leave feeling better in the moment. The structured arc of preparation, immersive weekend work, and post-retreat integration is specifically designed to help what shifts during the retreat become something lasting. You’ll leave with greater clarity, stronger self-understanding, and tools you can actually use.
It’s more cost-effective than it looks Compared to months of weekly sessions at $195 per 50-minute hour, a focused weekend retreat often represents real savings in time, money, and emotional energy. Rather than making incremental progress week after week, you create meaningful movement in a single focused weekend.
Individual Retreat Investment
Individual Therapy Retreat (Friday–Sunday) — $3,850 Includes lodging, meals, and all retreat sessions
