Trauma and Attachment Informed EMDR Therapy

New Roads Counseling - Marty Schwebel, LMFT

Providing psychotherapy for those who are overwhelmed with life

“Sometimes it all gets a little too much”

February 5, 2019 by Marty

These are lyrics by Canadian singer songwriter Shawn Mendes. An awesome younger person I’m close with recently shared this song with me at a poignant moment. I was moved to tears when I heard it. This song speaks to the fact that we all have pain and suffering. We so often choose the route of hiding our true feelings from others – our fears, worries, and sadness. The songwriter spoke about the song at one of his concerts (linked below) saying the person in the song learned that all she needed to do was talk to someone about her feelings to help her realize that “you don’t have to be afraid because we’re all the same.”

Talking to someone about your pain is simply the best way to move through it, grieve it, resolve it, and ultimately accept it. Today, I hope that you will take a risk and share whatever is weighing you down with someone else. In most cases, they will listen and you will feel heard. If they try to fix you or aren’t good listeners, then move on. There are definitely plenty of others out there who will hear you and understand.
