Ever had difficulty being in the moment and noticing the now?
Wow, this topic is my all time favorite because I believe that my biggest struggle in life has been developing a sense of peace with the present moment. As a person of faith, my relationship with God has been the single most effective way that I have been able to achieve peace in the present.
Don’t worry, this is not a religious post. It is a relationship post.
- How do you relate with yourself (in the moment)?
- How do you relate with special people in your life (in the moment)?
- How do you relate to God or if you do not believe in a God then how do you relate spiritually (in the moment)?
I believe that not being able to be present is an existential problem that can be solved.
This is such a huge topic that I cannot unpack in this blog post today. But while you are here, I just want to encourage you to practice being present today. Today is your day. There is nothing you can do to change the past and you will waste a lot of time today worrying about tomorrow.
What does being present mean exactly? Where else would I be?
Being mindful of the moment is so difficult when you either get depressed about past events OR you develop a generalized anxiety about what may or may not happen in the future.
There is a scripture that always encourages me that says, “be anxious for nothing, but in everything with thankfulness, make your requests be made known to God, and God will give you the peace that surpasses all understanding.” In other words, I interpret this to mean that gratitude is the PATH to being in the present. Gratitude grounds us in the moment.
Whether you believe in God or not, I hope you will take this word of encouragement as a way to enjoy today by being grateful for this day. My challenge to you is to find something that you are appreciative of and reply to this email to let me know about it. I look forward to hearing from you and being encouraged by what you are thankful for today.
I’ll go first…
I’m grateful for each of you. I’m grateful that you read this blog and that we are connected. I’m grateful that you are listening and that you give me feedback to continue this blog. I hope each of you will be blessed TODAY as you cultivate a thankful heart.
