Let’s face it – there is a lot of anxiety in the world. Here are a few tools to reduce your anxiety RIGHT NOW:
#1
Breathe. A simple trick to help focus on your breath is to remember the number 4-7-8. Breathe in for 4 counts, hold breath for 7, and exhale for 8. And repeat the cycle until it turns into a regular daily practice.
#2
Walk – Take a short walk and be mindful of what you see. I used to walk my dog and check email at the same time. This practice did not relax me at all. Now I walk the dog and engage the world with the same curiosity as she does.
#3
Meditate – It is scientifically proven that meditation is very effective for all sorts of issues. There are plenty of books and apps (religious or non) out there to help you develop a daily practice. Abide and Headspace are two of my favorites.

I’m adding a bonus! See a therapist. I’m available both in my Petaluma office and online (yes, video or phone therapy really works!).
